Bayville Handpainted Wall Panels Set of Two

A set of de Gournay Bayville panels, hand-painted on India tea paper and framed in a champagne wooden gilt frame. Against a soft powder-blue ground, flowering branches rise and spread across each panel: peonies, magnolia blossoms, ripening fruit and trailing gourds, with birds and butterflies caught mid-flight among the leaves. Every brushstroke is applied by hand in the chinoiserie tradition, so the detail and colour have a depth no print can match. Sold as a pair, the panels are sequential and read as one continuous garden. Hung above a console, sofa or bed, or set into a dining room or entry, they bring the feel of a classic painted room.
