Sold as a set, this beautiful pair of hand painted wall panels from de Gournay features the Earlham design on platinum mica metallic silk. Each is set in elegant custom made gold frames with UV acrylic. Trees reach towards the sky carrying profuse varieties of the most revered flowers in Chinese culture: tree peonies, chrysanthemums and plum blossoms. Delicate and intricately worn decorative rocks adorn the ground in front of a finely painted moss horizon while above some of the grandest and most recognisable species of gaily coloured oriental birds play in pairs amongst the branches. The source for Earlham is a set of panels in the Victoria & Albert Museum, dating from the mid 18th century - an amazingly well preserved and excellent example of their type. The panels can be hung together to match their design or or with some playful space between, say above a pair of bedside tables. This is a preowned item.
